PRIMARY PURPOSE AND FUNCTIONS:

FoodState has recorded strong growth over the past 5 years by adding successful new products and expanding our overall product portfolio in the Natural retail space. To continue to drive this growth, the company is seeking a strong Director of Product Strategy, reporting into the VP of Marketing.

This role will be responsible for leading the company’s overall new product innovation and renovation efforts as we seek to expand into new categories and platforms where the FoodState brand promise and philosophy can access and dominate share.

This role will interact with the executive team and work closely with cross-functional teams to vet ideas, develop the working pipeline and product strategy for our brands.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:    

  • Identify, design and launch product solutions to support business growth for FoodState brands by channel with a 3-5 year view.
  • Lead business case development for all new product concepts and drive execution of all projects through the Stage Gate process with the Project Management team.
  • Responsible for achieving FoodState annual operating objectives for new product revenue and profitability goals. Lead in tracking key KPI for new product performance.
  • Actively manages FoodState 5 Year Pipeline, with key stakeholders, to keep it up-to-date, full, and relevant to business strategy. Enlists support for the vision through leadership, influence, and negotiation with internal stakeholders.
  • Managing and providing competitive intelligence impacting brand and channel customer base, retail environment, and product trends.  Define market opportunity for products by channel.
  • Identify and understand key consumer trends and market drivers.  Predict and anticipate future trends in the marketplace with long-term outlook and shapes product strategy to align with those trends.
  • Leverage insights for influencing strategic direction of company and businesses; be the voice of product strategy and creating robust ideas/improvements.
  • Lead competitive assessments, competitor profiles, market assessments.
  • Collaborate with Brand team leaders to develop and execute consumer/product market research efforts with an aim of supporting fact-based decision making.
  • Collaborate with Project Management team to facilitate active projects through the stage gate process from concept through to post-mortem audit.
  • Actively seek market and solution input from Sales, Brand, R&D, and other stakeholders to support product strategy. Ensure strategy aligns with company vision and core values.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 8-10 years of directly related experience and an undergraduate degree is preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience managing diverse teams, with the ability to direct, motivate, interact, monitor, and resolve any personnel issues.
  • Knowledge of supplement or food manufacturing as well as familiar with cGMP’s, organic, non-GMO and other purity standards.
  • Strong leadership and business acumen required.
  • Must be detailed oriented with excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • A strong grasp of the Stage Gate process and how it can be used for maximum efficiency.
  • Solid experience working with co-manufacturing partners.
  • Proven track record of successful product launches developed under his/her responsibility.
  • A player/coach mindset and a roll-up-your-sleeves style to thrive in an entrepreneurial, high-growth environment.

  • Lead by example as a team player and team builder and excel at collaborating, partnering, and influencing decision making at all levels of the organization.
